Angela Ceisel, Psy.D. (she/her/hers)

Dr. Angela Ceisel is a licensed clinical psychologist with an enthusiasm for working with people of all ages. Dr. Ceisel offers individual, family, and group therapies.    Dr. Ceisel utilizes a variety of treatment modalities including talk-based techniques, coaching, expressive techniques, as well as play-based techniques for children. Dr. Ceisel will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan using evidence-based methods that suit your unique needs.

Dr. Ceisel has specialized training and experience with the following presenting issues: anxiety, depression, other emotional struggles, eating disorders, grief and loss, behavioral struggles, ADHD and other executive functioning disorders, social and relational struggles, school problems, family discord, caregiver burnout, and issues with divorce.  Dr. Ceisel also has specialized training in performing child, adolescent, and family therapies, play therapies, executive functioning coaching, animal-assisted therapies, as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and narrative treatment techniques.

Background

Dr. Ceisel is the owner and clinical director of Brighter Pathways, PLLC. She continues to provide direct care to patients as well as supervising and consulting for all Brighter Pathways providers. Dr. Ceisel enjoys mentoring, teaching, and guiding new providers in the field and is a passionate advocate for mental/behavioral parity.

Dr. Ceisel’s personal and professional values shape the values and attitude of Brighter Pathways. She is teaches and acts according to the values of diversity, acceptance, and inclusion. She is strong advocate for patients of all backgrounds and identities and proudly strives to be anti-oppressive, anti-racist, anti-ableist, LGBTQIA2S+ affirming and allied, neurodivergent affirming, body positive, and sex positive.

Dr. Ceisel earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from DePaul University with a double major in Psychology and Sociology.  She is a graduate from their Liberal Arts Honors program as well as Psychology Honors program.  She values her background in both psychology and sociology as it has equipped her to take a unique perspective on her patient’s struggles.  She looks beyond the individual and explores the many systems that contribute to an individual’s struggles.  She believes that we do not live in a vacuum and treatment should consider an approach that examines a person’s social world, work or school life, communities, and cultures.  She considers how these systems affect the patient’s presenting issues as well as how the patient’s unique areas of strengths can promote resiliency and progress in treatment.

Dr. Ceisel earned her Doctorate of Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s Clinical Psychology program.  Her clinical education included advanced training in: issues of divorce and child custody; grief and loss; anxiety; trauma; diversity issues; play therapies; child, adolescent and family therapies; systems approaches to therapy; couples therapy; cognitive-behavioral techniques; and psychological testing.  Her clinical training included advanced training in crisis management, school issues (including placement, IEPs, 504 plans, and educational testing), eating disorders, self-injury, anxiety and mood disorders, ADHD and autism spectrum disorders, learning disorders, parent education and coaching, as well as behavior management.  Her training included private practice, therapeutic day school, as well as public and charter school work.  Dr. Ceisel published her dissertation addressing social emotional needs of children entitled, Chicago Students’ Social Emotional Learning: Suggested Modification for PATHS curriculum.
